50 Years In Service
There have been many changes though the years. Some have been pastors and members. The
building is still the same but in February of 2009 the building went through a remodel to give it a
new and updated feel so people would feel welcome. As the church grows and matures so will the
building. The current pastor is Brent Fore, and with the help of God and God’s people the First
Baptist Church of Rose Hill will continue to grow and move towards a great and wonderful revival of
the cities of Kirkland and Redmond.
In 1960 Ray Harris (Evergreen Baptist Association Missionary) and Aaron Bachus (Pastor of Northgate Baptist
Church, Seattle) and the Association Missions Committee toured the greater Kirkland-Redmond area for a location
to plant a new Baptist Church. A committee from the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention also
surveyed the area. Upon their recommendation the present site was chosen.
Northgate Baptist Church elected a Missions Committee and called Rev. S. A. Kopp as the
first Mission Pastor. Northgate Baptist Church also sent 18 members from Northgate to
meet on Sunday afternoons in the “Sons of Norway Hall” in Kirkland. The first worship
service was held on October 2, 1960. In January 1961 the Northgate church voted to rent
the larger Norway Hall for $50.00 a month and began holding two services each Sunday.
The present site was selected and purchased by the Home Mission Board through
Operation Big City for $9,600 in November 1961. Ground was broken on August 26, 1962
to begin the construction process. At the groundbreaking service, Redmond Mayor G. C.
Graep attended along with members of Northgate Baptist Church and the Evergreen
Association. An L-shaped building plan from Baptist Sunday School Board was adopted.
It was to be the first of three units in a five to ten year building program.
The first service was held in the new building on December1, 1963, and the building
was dedicated on August 30, 1964. Dedication services were led by Pastor Kopp and
Bro. O. Ray Harris, Association Missionary. Among the guest speakers at the
Building Dedication were Rev. C. E. Boyle, Editor of the Pacific Coast Baptist; Dr.
Fred Moseley, Executive Secretary of the Oregon-Washington Baptist Central
Convention. At the Dedication service it was noted that “the amount of the loan is far
below any reasonable estimate of the value of the building. Pastor Kopp and the
faithful people have given themselves sacrificially to the building of a beautiful place
of worship.”

The first building unit was constructed in 1963-1964. Pastor Kopp led in the choosing of the
building plans, obtaining financing, and in the actual construction work. Pastor Kopp led in the
construction as acting contractor with the assistance of the Building Committee, friends from other
Baptist churches, and the community. Men, women and children all had a part in the construction.
